Adding A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV Records

What this is

Step-by-step for adding each type of DNS record in your control panel.

How to add a record

  1. Go to your domain's DNS records (see Managing your DNS zone).
  2. Click Add record.
  3. Select the record type.
  4. Fill in the fields and click Save.

Record types and their fields

A record — hostname, IPv4 address, TTL.

AAAA record — hostname, IPv6 address, TTL.

CNAME record — hostname, target domain, TTL.

MX record — hostname, mail server, priority, TTL.

TXT record — hostname, text value, TTL.

SRV record — service, protocol, priority, weight, port, target, TTL.

DS record — for DNSSEC delegation signing.

CAA record — specifies which certificate authorities can issue SSL certificates for your domain.

Editing and deleting records

Click the ⋯ menu next to any record → Edit or Delete.

Good to know

  • If you don't set a TTL, it defaults to the same value as the SOA record (typically 1400 seconds).
  • Be careful deleting MX records — it will break email delivery for your domain.
