Reading Error and Access Logs

What this is

Logs are your first stop when troubleshooting website issues. Error logs tell you what went wrong; access logs show who's visiting.

PHP error log

  1. Go to Websites → click your website → Advanced → Developer Tools.
  2. Find the PHP section.
  3. Scroll to php-error.log.

This shows PHP errors, warnings, and notices — useful for debugging 500 errors, white screens, and plugin conflicts.

Application logs

Under Developer Tools → Logs, you can view application-level logs for your website.

Access logs

Raw web server access logs are available via SSH if you need detailed visitor data. See Enabling SSH access.

Good to know

  • The php-error.log file is not included in backups — it's regenerated as needed.
  • If your error log is growing quickly, it usually means a script is throwing repeated warnings. Fix the underlying issue to stop log growth.
