WordPress White Screen / Login Loop

What's happening

Your WordPress site shows a blank white page, or you're stuck in a redirect loop when trying to log in.

How to fix it

1. Enable debug mode

Go to WordPress → Manage → Debug and turn on WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG. This often reveals the specific error (a plugin conflict, a missing file, a PHP version issue).

2. Check the PHP error log

Go to Developer Tools → PHP → php-error.log. Look for fatal errors or memory exhaustion messages.

3. Deactivate plugins via FTP/SSH

If you can't access WordPress admin at all:

  1. Connect via FTP or SSH. See Creating an FTP/SFTP account or Enabling SSH access.
  2. Navigate to wp-content/.
  3. Rename the plugins folder to plugins_disabled.
  4. Try loading your site — if it works, the problem is a plugin.
  5. Rename it back to plugins and reactivate plugins one by one to find the culprit.

4. Increase memory limit

If the error log shows "Allowed memory size exhausted," increase memory_limit in the php.ini editor. See Editing PHP settings.

5. Check PHP version compatibility

If you recently changed PHP versions, a theme or plugin may not be compatible. Try switching back to the previous version.
