Creating a Database User

What this is

A database user is a login that your website uses to connect to its database. You create the user first, then assign it to one or more databases.

How to create a database user

  1. Go to Websites → click your website → Databases tab.
  2. Click Add user.
  3. Enter a username and password.
  4. Optionally assign access to existing databases.
  5. Click Add.

Managing users

Click a database user to:

  • Change their password.
  • Add or remove database access.
  • Grant or revoke specific privileges.
  • Allow remote access (see Allowing remote MySQL connections).

Good to know

  • If you remove all privileges for a user on a specific database, that user no longer appears under that database's listing.
  • You can have multiple users with different permission levels on the same database — useful for giving a developer read-only access.
