Free SSL with Let's Encrypt

What this is

Every domain hosted with TrustEdge gets a free SSL certificate from Let's Encrypt, automatically. SSL encrypts the connection between your visitors and your website, and is required for HTTPS.

How it works

  • When you add a domain, a Let's Encrypt certificate is automatically requested. It may take up to 5 minutes to issue. During that time, a temporary self-signed certificate is used.
  • Certificates last 3 months and are renewed automatically 3 days before they expire.
  • Your webmail address (mail.yourdomain.com) also gets its own certificate automatically.

Manually requesting a certificate

If a certificate didn't issue automatically (for example, after a DNS change):

  1. Go to Websites → click your website → Advanced → Security.
  2. Scroll to SSL certificates.
  3. Click the ⋯ menu next to the domain → Request Let's Encrypt Certificate.

Common problems

Problem Likely cause What to do
Certificate stuck on "pending" DNS not pointed to TrustEdge yet. Make sure your A record points to your server. Use whatsmydns.net to check.
Certificate keeps failing .htaccess is blocking the validation path. Temporarily rename .htaccess and request the certificate again.
Multiple failures with increasing delays The system backs off after each failure to avoid rate limits. Wait for the backoff period to pass, fix the underlying issue, then try again.
Using Cloudflare Cloudflare proxy can interfere. Set Cloudflare's SSL mode to Full (not Flexible or Strict).
