Importing and Exporting Databases

What this is

You can import a database from a .sql file (for example, when migrating from another host) or export one as a backup or for transfer.

How to export (download) a database

  1. Go to Websites → click your website → Databases tab.
  2. Click the database.
  3. Click Download.

This saves the database as a .sql file on your computer.

How to import (upload) a database

  1. Go to Websites → click your website → Databases tab.
  2. Click the database.
  3. Click Upload.
  4. Select your .sql file.

You can also import through phpMyAdmin (up to 500 MB compressed).

For very large databases

If your .sql file is over 500 MB, import it via SSH instead:

mysql -u your_username -p your_database_name < /path/to/file.sql

See Enabling SSH access for how to connect.

Good to know

  • Databases are also included in your website backups. See How TrustEdge backups work.
  • When restoring a backup, you can choose to restore only specific databases without touching your files.
