Using the File Manager

What this is

Your control panel includes a built-in file manager that lets you browse, edit, upload, and manage your website files directly in your browser — no FTP software needed. It works on phones, tablets, and desktops.

How to open it

Go to Websites → click your website → click the Files tab.

Getting around

  • The left sidebar shows your folder tree. Click a folder to see its contents on the right.
  • Click + to expand subfolders.
  • The document root (the folder your website serves from) is marked with a globe icon.

What you can do

Right-click any file or folder (or use the ⋯ menu) to see your options:

Action What it does
Edit Open the file in a built-in text editor.
Download Save a copy to your computer.
Get info View the file path, size, and permissions.
Copy / Rename Duplicate or rename the file.
Compress / Uncompress Create or extract .zip archives.
Permissions (CHMOD) Change file or folder permissions (see Setting file permissions).
Delete Remove the file or folder.

Creating new files and folders

Click New at the top → choose File or Folder.

Selecting multiple items

Use the Select all checkbox to select everything in the current view, then use the bulk action bar at the bottom.

Good to know

  • There's no file size limit on uploads through the file manager.
  • Drag-and-drop uploading is supported.
  • When unzipping, you'll see an option to overwrite existing files if there are conflicts.
